"Thanks for the wonderful luau; we had a great time. The food was tasty, the decorations were festive and the entertainment was…entertaining! Mom really enjoyed herself." L.M.
Our dedicated activity staff offer so many activities that there is something for everyone! We start all our residents off with seated exercise every morning. Our activity programs tailor to the residents' needs and cognitive functioning. Whether a resident lives in The Gardens (normal ageing memory loss or minor forgetfulness), Sunnyside Street (early to mid-stage memory loss) or Memory Lane (late stage), that resident may, when appropriate, participate in any of our activity and dining programs. Once it is determined where the resident functions best and where that resident's interests lie, our dedicated activity staff will encourage him/her to join in the fun.
Staying socially active helps our residents maintain good physical and emotional health as well as cognitive function. Because we have so many social events (including Happy Hour, Coffee and Donut Socials, Arts and Crafts and Baking Classes), our residents get the opportunity to meet their peers who understand the unique challenges of ageing. Once our residents begin to make friends, exercise regularly and engage in things they enjoy, they truly blossom. Because we have a disabled-accessible bus, we can drive residents to medical and dental appointments, scenic drives and to other events such as lunch outings, Holiday light displays and more. At Sunnyside, we love to party! We have entertainment several times per month and major special events regularly for the residents to look forward to. Some events include: Mother’s Day Brunch, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Summer Luau, 4th of July BBQ and more. Family members are encouraged to attend our events, too. And don' forget, for those residents who enjoy animals, “Furry Friends”, a local non-profit, brings in specially-trained dogs to visit with our residents.
